Controlled Boat Retrieval Process on McCook Lake POSTPONED

Because of the boating closure on McCook Lake, North Sioux City Police assisted by SD Game, Fish and Parks has developed a plan for residents of McCook Lake to retrieve their boats via the water. The escorted retrieval process scheduled to occur on 7/1/24 will now be held on Tuesday, July 2nd from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Izaak Walton League boat ramp, with the safety of all involved as the top priority. Boat owners are asked to arrive at the location, west of the Isaak Walton League on Izaak Walton Drive, during the time frame listed with the following items/information:

  • Vehicle and empty boat trailer.
  • Vehicle driver and boat operator (2 people total)
  • Address of boat being retrieved.
  • Photo ID
  • Life Jacket

Although the water’s of McCook Lake remain closed to boating, Conservation Officers will individually escort boat owners to their boat and back to the Izaak Walton League ramp during the assigned time. Staff will be on hand at the ramp to assist with the loading of boats. Only operational boats (must be running) will be retrieved and retrieval of other personal property will not be allowed. Residents needing to retrieve a boat from the lake are encouraged to make the scheduled times work, as there may not be other retrieval opportunities after 7/2/24 per the boating closure.
