2025 NORTH SIOUX CITY MUNICIPAL ELECTION
Nominating Petition Information
VACANCIES IN OFFICE due to change in form of government which will be on the April 8, 2025 municipal election ballot:
MAYOR, AT LARGE – 5-YEAR TERM
COMMISSIONER, AT LARGE – 4-YEAR TERM
COMMISSIONER, AT LARGE – 3-YEAR TERM
COMMISSIONER, AT LARGE – 2-YEAR TERM
COMMISSIONER, AT LARGE – 1-YEAR TERM
- Circulation of nominating petitions may begin on January 31, 2025.
- Nominating petition must be complete with the position and term of office before it is circulated.
- Petitions may be circulated for multiple positions/terms, but a candidate may only have on file one petition for one of the vacancies.
- Petitions pulled for circulating will not be disclosed to the public until they are received back and signatures are validated. Once validated, petitions are public record.
- All petitions require 50 signatures from registered voters residing in North Sioux City.
- A registered voter can only sign one petition for each position to be filled. For example, a registered voter may only sign one petition for a candidate running for mayor and one petition for a candidate running for a 4-year term commission, etc. The first signature turned in for a position will be counted, any subsequent signatures on another candidate’s petition for the same position will not count.
- Deadline for filing nominating petitions is 5:00 p.m. on February 28, 2025 either in the office of the Finance Officer or by registered mail posted to the Finance Officer. Early submittal is suggested in case additional signatures are required.
- Deadline to withdraw petitions is February 28, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
