NSC Senior Citizens Service Center
A Bit of History
On the 15th day of June 1979, a non-for-profit organization was created by the residents of North Sioux City and was established as the Senior Citizens Service Center.
The organization's purpose is to:
- plan and promote civic and beneficial programs for all residents 55 years or older who live in the area
- develop meaningful and creative services for individuals and groups
- make available community resources and plans, relating to older people
- provide a specific facility for older people to meet the changing needs (concerns and interests) of their lives and finding channels to accommodate those needs
- provide social services
When the organization was created, the board wanted to make life easier and more meaningful to our senior residents. We desire for our Center to be a focal point for services to older persons. We want to enhance their dignity, support their independence, and encourage their involvement in the community.
One way to make life easier was to provide our residents with healthy and nutritious meals throughout the week. Meals are served at the Center and at home, for home-bound residents. Meals are provided through the Dakota Senior Meals program. Click here to learn more.
We want the Service Center to be a gathering place for all seniors. The Service Center is open during the week from 10 am till 5 pm. We encourage our Seniors to enjoy the center throughout the day ... not just for lunch.
Are you a card player?? Bring your group down to the Center. We plan to have a dedicated game room, but for now, we have plenty of tables for any activity.
Come see us at our new facility, just across the street from our previous facility. With the move, we are making plans to have a dedicated game room, training classes, lending library and plus a craft center. Join us and be a part of our future plans.
