Rags in Sewer Still Shutting Down Lift Station
Remember to be cautious about what you put down the drain or into toilets. Household items such as rags (even disposable rags) can travel down the mains to a lift station and cause severe damage to the pumps.
Once rags are wrapped around the blades, the system is shut down so the rags can be ripped, cut, or torn to untangle them from the pump. This causes significant damage as well as loss of man hours to repair the system.
When the system is shut down, the potential for sewage backing up into basements increases significantly.
Properly dispose of cloth/rags or other items.
